The scar on a woman’s hand? You get the idea. The next shape that you color can add to your first inspiration or start a new train of thought. Maybe the color you are using itself is a source of inspiration: yellow—sun, buttercups, submarine, the Beatles, a smoky dorm room, the smell of sweet aftershave, the feel of a worn school sweatshirt …. You have to be pretty old to follow that particular track of thinking (and yes, it made me smile), but you can see where you might go with this. DISTRACT Sometimes it’s enough to just feel that you made something beautiful for a few minutes that day. Writing is work, so a little “me” time while you color can make for a much-needed stress-free break in your day. It’s also the reason why the images in this book vary in complexity. Sometimes it’s even too stressful to deal with little tiny spaces, and larger ones are more inviting.
